EXCLUSIVE: LAT 'SCRIPTLAND' COLUMNIST GOES TO THR
By Tom Tapp
The Hollywood Reporter finally won one.
The trade has wooed Los Angeles Times columnist Jay Fernandez to its Wilshire offices for a full time gig as a senior film reporter. There, Fernandez will concentrate on breaking news. He'll also do secondary analysis and deeper coverage along the lines of his Scriptland column for the Times.
It's a win for the trade as, even as it lays people off, the Times fought to keep Fernandez.
Fernandez has written Scriptland since September 2006 when the column launched with a piece analyzing Charlie Kaufman's hush-hush script for "Synecdoche, New York." The column also tackled the then-Byzantine Paramount development system under Gail Berman and the rift between Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Guillermo Arriaga.
Scriptland's final appearance in the Times will be Wednesday.
