"HSM3' gets sing-along version (REU)

By Nancy Tartaglione-Vialatte

In keeping with a modern trend begun with 2007’s “Hairspray” and continued with this summer’s “Mamma Mia!,” Disney will roll out a sing-along version of “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” this weekend. This marks the first time Disney has released a sing-along take nationwide, notes Reuters.

After only two weeks at the box office, “HSM3’s” sing-along edition will be released on 125 screens on Friday in major US cities.

"We felt that the ('High School Musical 3') movie's huge base of enthusiastic fans would really embrace a sing-along version," Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, said.

In August last year, New Line released a special edition print of “Hairspray” with sing-along tracks in dozens of cities in the US. Universal this August took a similar tack with “Mamma Mia!” in the US. The sing-along version also played in the UK.

Since its release October 22, “HSM3” has taken in more than $146 million at the worldwide box office.
