WILSON'S PROJECTS IN QUESTION (VAR, THR)

By Nancy Vialatte

With yesterdays sad news of Owen Wilsons emergency hospitalization come questions about his current and future projects. The actor was to begin shooting a starring role in the Ben Stiller comedy "Tropic Thunder" whose production is currently underway in Hawaii while his match up with Jennifer Aniston, Marley & Me, is scheduled for a January start. On the marketing side, he has two films, The Darjeeling Limited and Drillbit Taylor, set for upcoming release. Variety says that the Sunday incident is the latest - after Lindsay Lohan's summer troubles - to pose the question of insurability for top-tier stars.

Wilson was taken to St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica late Sunday after police and fire personnel answered a call from his Santa Monica home, responding to what some media reports characterized as a failed suicide attempt.

DreamWorks, which will release Thunder, yesterday issued only a one-line statement that read Filming on Tropic Thunder continues.

When Variety queried Fox whether production on "Marley & Me" would be affected, a spokesman said, "It's a totally inappropriate question at this time when all of our thoughts and concerns are with his health and well being."

"The Darjeeling Limited" is set for release by Fox Searchlight on Sept. 28 following a series of festival unveilings.

Whether the actor will participate in any of the activities surrounding the film's opening remains to be seen, but (publicist Ina) Treciokas said Wilson already had completed long-lead press commitments on behalf of the film and "he's always committed to and supports his projects." (THR)

Further, Paramount, which will release "Drillbit Taylor" in March, faces an even bigger problem because of the Judd Apatow-produced film's young-male demographic, notes Variety.

In recent years, the "Wedding Crashers" star and Oscar-nominated writer has become one of the most in-demand comic actors. UTA, which reps Wilson, deflected queries to the actor's publicist, Ina Treciokas. (VAR)

Wilson's camp declined comment on the status of the actor's upcoming projects. Treciokas, instead, issued the following statement from the actor, "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time." (VAR)
