SPIELBERG BECOMES MAN IN BLACK...HOLE (VAR)
By Stephen Saito
After talking about directing smaller films on "Sunday Morning Shootout" last week, Steven Spielberg will likely direct a big sci-fi film for Paramount about a group of space travelers who step into another dimension through a black hole. The film is based on the work of Kip Thorne, a Caltech physicist and relativity expert who wrote a script treatment for his friend, producer Lynda Obst, who will produce the film for Spielberg.
Pic is likely two to three years away, which is fine with Spielberg. Director is currently considering wither an Abraham Lincoln biopic starring Liam Neeson or Indiana Jones IV as his next project.
Writes Variety:
Project, in a nascent stage, is anchored in real science. It was derived from a treatment by Kip S. Thorne, a Caltech physicist who's an expert on relativity. Thorne is most famous for his controversial theory that wormholes not only exist but can be accessed and used as portals for time travel.
Spielberg so sparked to the possibilities that he attended a Caltech workshop with Thorne and other scientists, taking with him his 89-year- old father, Arnold Spielberg, a retired engineer.
