Malkovich joins Brolin for 'Hex' (VAR)

By Nancy Tartaglione-Vialatte

John Malkovich has joined Warner Bros.' "Jonah Hex" alongside Josh Brolin. Legendary Pictures has also joined the project as co-financier and co-producer, according to Variety. The film, which has gone through myriad status levels - the on-again, off-again participation of Brolin followed by the departure of directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and the hiring of Jimmy Hayward to replace them - will start production in April.

Malkovich will play Turnbull, a wealthy Southern plantation owner whose son is killed by Union soldiers during the Civil War. He blames Hex, a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter.

The script by Neveldine and Taylor - who bowed out over creative differences in November - is still being used as the basis for the film which Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar is producing with Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman.

The comic book was introduced in the 1970s, created by writer John Albano.
