Auds may find themselves addicted to 'Shopaholic' at the weekend (MBN)
By Paul Dergarabedian
This weekend sees a box-office double-whammy as both Valentine's Day and President's Weekend will make this one to remember with Disney's "Confessions of a Shopaholic" starring Isla Fisher testing recession-era audiences and their eagerness to watch the rather fun (but not without consequence) spending habits of the film's heroine.
One would be ill-advised to bet against the innate appeal of the film's star, a great marketing campaign and the continued clout of female audiences who will most likely show up in large numbers to go along for the ride.
Two other films will open in wide release and both represent two other very different genres. Sony's "The International" offers up a slickly packaged thriller set in the world of high finance and with star Clive Owen in charge, there will be many investing their time this weekend.
Finally, the always popular horror genre will be well-represented with the perfectly-timed release of "Friday the 13th" as the kids of Camp Crystal Lake get the full-blown remake treatment by producer Michael Bay who had great success with the 2003 and 2006 "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" redos as well as the update of "The Amityville Horror" in 2005.
Warner Brothers should get a nice Valentine's date crowd boost out of this one as well as a nice second weekend for "He's Just Not That Into You."
