New 'Friday the 13th' ready in 2010? (BIZ, BD)
By Nancy Tartaglione-Vialatte
Just two weeks after the re-boot helped slash President's Day Weekend records at the box office, New Line and Platinum Dunes are said to be moving forward with a "Friday the 13th" sequel. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who wrote the recent update, are beginning work on a script for a new picture. But, there's a catch, reports the Risky Business blog.
The new film will not be a sequel and will instead will be something of a follow-up. Jason Voorhees is still the villain but the new film will use the original franchise as a launch pad to go in different directions.
Marcus Nispel, who directed the latest film, is a possible but unlikely candidate for the next one says the blog.
Although they survived in the latest film, stars Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti could have scheduling difficulties given their TV commitments.
Insiders cautioned BIZ that there is no green light but Bloody-Disgusting.com reports that it’s hearing August 13, 2010 is a likely release date and that there will almost definitely be a new director at the helm.
