Mangold to direct possible Cruise-Diaz reteaming (VAR)
By Nancy Tartaglione
James Mangold is attached to direct an untitled romantic comedy at Fox eyed as a possible rematch for Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, reports Variety. The film, formerly known as "Wichita" and "Trouble Man" is centered on a woman who has terrible luck with men but finds her path intertwined with that of a mysterious handsome man she meets on a blind date.
Scott Frank is doing a rewrite while Mangold's Tree Line Films partner Cathy Konrad will produce with Joe Roth, Steve Pink and Todd Garner.
Chris Tucker and Eva Mendes were attached to the project last year along with director Tom Dey. The script was originated by Patrick O'Neill, and prior drafts have been done by Frank and Dana Fox.
Neither Cruise nor Diaz - who previously starred in Cameron Crowe's "Vanilla Sky" - is formally attached, but the project is one of several films that Cruise is considering for his next star vehicle. It was announced earlier this week that Diaz is attached to "Swingles," a romantic comedy at Paramount.
