Searchlight going 'Crazy'

By Nancy Tartaglione

As has been presaged all week, Fox Searchlight is going for the gold with "Crazy Heart." The first feature from Scott Cooper will be released on December 16 following LA screenings that hit home with critics this week.

The film stars Jeff Bridges in what is being tipped as the performance that could finally nab him a long-deserved but elusive Oscar.

According to the press notes, Bridges plays the "comic, semi-tragic romantic anti-hero Bad Blake...a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who's had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times."

Bad reaches for salvation with the help of Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician.

The film is based on a novel by Thomas Cobb and is produced by Cooper, Robert Duvall (who also has a role), Rob Carliner, Judy Cairo, and T Bone Burnett. The original music is also from Burnett.

The film was originally skedded for release next year.
