'Independence Day' Forever? (MTV)
By Nancy Tartaglione
Is there another "Independence Day" in the offing? MTV is reporting that Roland Emmerich, who's been making the press rounds for this weekend's "2012," said he's thinking about doing a twofer: a pair of sequels to the 1996 hit that blasted Will Smith into the stratosphere of international box office domination.
"What we want to do in the next - it's actually two movies - we want to do a bigger arc," Emmerich told MTV. "'Independence Day' was always like the king who leads his troops into battle against an evil force, and that stays like that."
As for the title, Emmerich suggested: "'ID4-ever,' Part I and II maybe?"
There is no script yet, just an idea. Emmerich told MTV that when they move forward Will Smith will most certainly be involved. "The idea is just to continue the story and actually I don't know how many years ago this was - twelve, thirteen, fourteen years ago - and just continue where it ended."
