Winslet to play 'Mildred Pierce' at HBO (TW, THR)
By Nancy Tartaglione
Kate Winslet will star in HBO's five hour mini-series "Mildred Pierce," a new take on the Joan Crawford classic to be directed by Todd Haynes.
Based on a novel by James M. Cain, the 1945 version of "Pierce" won an Oscar for Crawford.
The story centers on a proud single mother struggling to earn her daughter's love during the Great Depression in middle-class Los Angeles.
HBO will co-produce the movie with MGM, Killer Films and John Wells Productions. It begins shooting in New York in April.
Haynes and Jon Raymond co-wrote the script. "Mildred" is being executive produced by Haynes, Pamela Koffler and Christine Vachon of Killer Films and John Wells. Ilene Landress serves as producer.
