Paramount into 'The Ring 3D' (HV)
By Nancy Tartaglione
Paramount is moving ahead with a new installment of horror thriller franchise "The Ring" - this time in 3D. The Heat Vision blog reports that the third entry based on the Japanese horror films, "Ring 3D," has David Loucka in to write the script. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are in negotiations to return as producers.
Vertigo and Benderspink are executive producing. The original English-language film was a remake of the 1998 Japanese film. It starred Naomi Watts and was directed by a pre-"Pirates of the Caribbean" Gore Verbinski.
"Ring" is one of the titles left behind during the Paramount-DreamWorks split and was thought to have been inactive, says HV.
The new film is being given a teen-centric lilt and, though the logline is being kept under wraps, HV says the aim is to reinvent the franchise.
