Cannes roundup: Stars or few stars, the glitz is still there, but are the buyers and financiers? (NYT, WRAP, TEL)
By Hollywood Wiretap staff
Well into the first week of the venerated fest, observers are underwhelmed and yet paradoxically still awed by the spectacle. (It helps that burlesque dancers showed up to lightheartedly pump Matthew Almaric's "Tournee.") Many reports are reflecting on the relative dearth of high-wattage star power -- but these same essayists seem to still be impressed by who they DO see or meet. The big question seems to be: Who's got the money? The films will play out, awards will be given, some surprises will arise, people will party, and folks will come away pleased or not, reassess the pics and fest itself or not, and enjoy the ambiance despite themselves. After all, it's Cannes.
