Danny Boyle is said to be in the running to direct the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympics in London. According to the UK's Independent, organizers are believed to have approached Boyle about helming the event which will take place at the newly constructed Olympic stadium in Stratford.
A spokeswoman from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games would not confirm Boyle's involvement and said talks were ongoing with a number of people about availability. "A lot of talented people would like to be involved that may have other commitments," she told the newspaper.
However, says the paper, there is a mounting belief that Boyle is seen as the answer to organizers' dreams. One insider said, "Nothing has been signed yet, but we do fully expect him [Boyle] to do it."
When asked about his potential involvement, Boyle reportedly said, "I can't say any more. It would be lovely, wouldn't it?"
