Slump is not a word usually associated with Jerry Bruckheimer (THR)

Disney says the multibillion-dollar producer's deal is secure, but one "insider" quoted by the Hollywood Reporter says, "No producer can have four flops and have there be no repercussions."

"The Sorcerer's Apprentice" cost at least $160 million to produce and was intended to be a "Pirates of the Caribbean" style franchise.

The problem with the movie's less-than-magical $17.6 million bow seems to be that although date-movie couples are showing up, families opted for "Despicable Me."

Disney is keeping its fingers crossed for foreign markets, but the underperforming "Sorcerer" follows poor showings by "The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" and the 2009 movies "G-Force" and the unfortunately timed "Confessions of a Shopaholic."

Meanwhile, Bruckheimer is in the middle of production of the fourth swashbuckler starring Johnny Depp, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."

With any luck, Bruckheimer will regain his footing and development will proceed on other projects that may have stalled or slowed.
