BJ Novak reups at 'The Office' (VAR)

Universal Media Studios has cut a deal with "Office" actor and writer-producer BJ Novak for a further two seasons. Variety reports the deal also includes a development component for Novak to field new projects for the studio.
Novak, like other multi-hyphenates on "The Office," has been at work on both sides of the camera. He will be upped to executive producer status around the midway point of the show's upcoming seventh season and will direct two episodes. He directed his first episode of the show last season.
With "Office" star Steve Carell announcing that he will depart the show after next season, NBC and UMS were eager to ensure that Novak remains in the fold, notes Variety.
On the bigscreen, Novak had a role in "Inglourious Basterds" last year and his upcoming features include a voice-cast role in Columbia's revival of "The Smurfs."
