Aaron Johnson, Jude Law offered 'Anna Karenina' (DH, VAR)

By Nancy Tartaglione

Aaron Johnson has reportedly been offered the romantic lead opposite Keira Knightley in Joe Wright's adaptation of "Anna Karenina." (Deadline also reports that the "Kick-Ass" actor has been offered one of the two male leads in Oliver Stone's "Savages.") Meanwhile, Variety adds that Jude Law is also in talks for the Tom Stoppard-scripted take on the Tolstoy classic.

Knightley has been attached to the project in the press for some time now, although her IMDB page does not list the film. However, The Daily Mail back in November said she was at the 'top of the list' of actresses for the part and About.com recently published an interview with Wright in which he answered the question 'Who's your Anna?' by saying, "Not sure yet. It's fairly obvious, but I can't quite say. She hasn't signed on the line yet. I'm loyal to my actors."

Wright also told About.com he was "hoping to do Anna Karenina in the autumn." In the interview, he said Stoppard had done an "amazing script."

"Karenina" would rep the third collaboration for Knightley and Wright who previously worked together on "Atonement" and "Pride and Prejudice."

Back to Johnson and the Stone project: Deadline says the film will shoot in June and while Jennifer Lawrence is Stone's first choice to play the female lead, her commitment to "The Hunger Games" has made her participation uncertain at the moment.
