Apple said considering Hulu bid (BLOOM)
By Nancy Tartaglione
Bloomberg reports that Apple is considering making a bid for Hulu, according to two people with knowledge of the auction. Hulu recently made its initial presentation to potential buyers during which Amazon, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and DirecTV all reportedly expressed interest.
Now, says Bloomberg, Apple is in early talks that may lead to an offer for Hulu.
The streaming service would give Apple a new subscription service and represent a possible challenge to Netflix, Bloomberg notes.
"Part of the ecosystem of Apple's future is to include more video," Scott Sutherland, a Wedbush Securities analyst, told Bloomberg.
Hulu's price tag could exceed $2 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg and SNL Kagan.
"Hulu would add a new element to their arsenal from a streaming and subscription standpoint," a second analyst told Bloomberg.
A reported offer from Yahoo in late June was the first news of the Hulu auction.
