McConaughey to Soderbergh's strip flick (VAR)
By Nancy Tartaglione
Matthew McConaughey will join Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer in Steven Soderbergh's stripper drama "Magic Mike."
Variety reports that the actor will play a former exotic dancer who owns the club where Tatum's title character works. Pettyfer is to play Tatum's protege.
The film draws on Tatum's experiences working as a teen stripper in Tampa, Variety notes.
Nick Wechsler and Gregory Jacobs are producing with Tatum and his 33andOut Prods. partner Reid Carolin. Carolin is writing the script.
The Playlist points out that there is still more casting to come, including a supporting part for an actress. The $6-$7 million pic begins shooting next month.
