Two-time 'Jeopardy!' champ sells 'Rome, Sweet Rome' to Warners (VAR, DH)
By Nancy Tartaglione-Moore
Warners has preemptively acquired high-concept pitch "Rome, Sweet Rome" from first-time screenwriter - and two-time "Jeopardy!" champion - James Erwin.
According to reports, Erwin made the sale after several postings on Reddit.com which were spotted by Madhouse Entertainment's Adam Kolbrenner who worked with Erwin to develop the concept of a Marine unit sent to Ancient Rome where they encounter one of the world's most legendary villains and disrupt history. To return home, they have to set history back on the track they altered.
Kolbrenner brought it to WB's Chris Gary, a young exec who encouraged the studio move aggressively to acquire it, says Variety.
Kolbrenner will produce with Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang. Madhouse's Robyn Meisinger will exec produce.
