'SKYFALL': Bond 23 details officially announced (BBC, TWITT)

By Nancy Tartaglione-Moore

Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson held a press conference in London on Thursday morning to unveil details on their upcoming James Bond film. The film is indeed titled "Skyfall," as had been rumored.

The title has "some emotional context" the producers said while director Sam Mendes offered that the film is its own story and does not connect to the last two pictures.

"Skyfall" starts shooting today.

At the press conference, held on the same date that Sean Connery was named as the first James Bond, Mendes was joined on stage by Daniel Craig, Berenice Marlohe, Naomie Harris, Judi Dench and Javier Bardem.

Many of the cast members had been rumored with Bardem recently confirming he would play a villain. The Daily Mail earlier reported Harris would play Miss Moneypenny with Marlohe in as a Bond girl. Today, Harris was confirmed as a field agent called Eve; Marlohe's character's name is Severin.

Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes and Albert Finney are also in the cast.

Mendes said the storyline will take 007 to London, China, Turkey and Scotland.

In a report ahead of the press conference, The BBC noted that there's been a lot of speculation about how Mendes will handle 007 with some suggesting he would tone down the action.

But Mendes told reporters that the "fantastic script" had "all the elements of a classic Bond movie, including - to quell any rumors - lots of action."
