Indonesian Hit 'The Raid' to Get Sequel, Gareth Evans To Direct Again(HWT)

The team behind Indonesian hit "The Raid" is prepping a sequel skedded to shoot near the end of the year in Jakarta. Gareth Huw Evans will return to direct star Iko Uwais. Evans is producing via his PT Merantau Films. XYZ Films is also producing the tentatively titled "Berendal." Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has taken US, Latin America and Spain with Alliance/Momentum on board for the UK and Canada.

"The Raid" won the Midnight Madness award in Toronto last year and just screened at Sundance. Sony Pictures Classics is releasing it on March 23 with Screen Gems planning an English-language remake that XYZ Films is also producing.

Celluloid Dreams will rep the film internationally under its foreign sales partnership with XYZ Films.

"The Raid" follows an elite swat team tasked with raiding an impenetrable safe house deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums. As the mission quickly falls apart, the squad finds themselves stranded in the building and left with no choice but to complete the mission by fighting their way out.
