Search For 'Catching Fire'Director is Narrowing (PL, DH, 24F, HV)
By Nancy Tartaglione-Moore
The Playlist yesterday had a scoop that Bennett Miller and Francis Lawrence were in the running to direct "Hunger Games" sequel "Catching Fire." The news has caught fire so to speak with other outlets weighing in.
Deadline hears that Lionsgate also met with "The Orphanage" helmer Juan Antonio Bayona and that "Attack The Block" director Joe Cornish was also discussed.
Bayona is not completely out of it, but Cornish didn't get to the point of a meeting. Deadline also says Miller is quite interested, but he wanted to push until spring so he could make "Foxcatcher" for Fox. Lionsgate wants to start by August and doesn't want to wait.
24 Frames says Tomas Alfredson and Stephen Daldry were also previously in the mix. The blog says Lawrence may be the easier option because his schedule is open.
A decision could come as early as the end of this week, says Heat Vision.
