'True Detective' Series Lands 8 Episodes on HBO With Harrelson & McConaughey (DH, EW)

By Nancy Tartaglione-Moore

HBO has ordered 8 episodes of "True Detective," a drama series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Deadline reports HBO is finalizing the deal for the high-concept cop show written by Nic Pizzolatto, with Cary Fukunaga directing all episodes.

The project sparked heated bidding when it was shopped to the top cable nets. It centers on two detectives whose lives collide and entwine during a seventeen-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana.

Production is gearing up to start right away.

Anonymous Content developed "True Detective" in-house and will be producing the series.

Entertainment Weekly says the series could be an ongoing anthology for the pay cabler. Subsequent seasons of "True Detective" would use the same concept, but involve new characters and a new story.
