Bangor station manager: When Bar Harbor is underwater, then we can do global warming stories" (NYT)
By Nancy Vialatte
A station manager in Bangor, Maine has come out against global warming - reporting on it, that is.
Michael Palmer, the general manager of local ABC and Fox affiliates, WVII and WFVX, reportedly sent an email to his staff this summer that began, I was wondering where we should send the bill for the live shot Friday at the theater for the Al Gore commercial we aired. This was following a report on the local opening of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth."
The New York Times has received a copy of the email which blasts the concept of global warming as similar to the "African Bee scare."
Though Palmer didn't respond to requests from the Times for comment, a Columbia University scientist did tell the paper that the station's policy is irresponsible and that he assumes the people of Maine will have other sources of information available to them.
